Charlottesville Yoseikan hosted a seminar/fundraiser for the second summer in a row. This year, featured guest instructor was Sensei Gerald Meade from the Honbu dojo in Covington, KY.
Meade Sensei began his training back in the early 1970's and is ranked Yandan in Chito-ryu Karate-do. More then eight years ago he began training under the prestigious Iaijutsu organization, "Muso Jikiden Eishen-Ryu". He now holds the rank of Nidan in this discipline.
The purpose of the seminar was twofold.
Charlottesville Yoseikan has a "slush fund" that is used to assist students with financial aid when traveling to the October National clinic at the Honbu dojo. Also, this money may be allocated for any equipment that may be needed to enhance the quality of our training.
The second reason for Meade Sensei's visit was to set up a syllabus under that used by the "Jikishin Kai" so that Charlottesville Yoseikan may begin a legitimate Iaijitsu class starting in the Fall of 2008.
Sensei Meade worked diligently for three days with Linda Gage, Chief Instructor at the Cville Yoseikan as well as Emma Gage, Assistant Instructor at the Cville Yoseikan. Also asked to be an intregal part of this program are Linda Hexter, John Grammer and Danny Monge, The three karate-ka are Nikyu ranked and are some of the up and coming star students at the dojo.
The fundraiser was organized by Fred Seibenman with the help of several other karate-ka. His wife, Veronique did a wonderful job supplying lunch. Lolita Bland did a superb job designing the flyer.
